ECP receives 3,600 nomination papers
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has so far received around 3600 nomination papers for the upcoming general election from across the country. The commission has already cleared some 1200 nomination papers after due verification from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Today (Sunday) is the last day for filing of the nomination papers as the ECP has decided not to allow further extension in the deadline. From Monday, the returning officers will start much-awaited scrutiny process keeping in view the constitutional provisions of Article 62 and 63. The process will continue until April 7, 2013.
The summery sheet of the nomination papers received by the ECP are forwarded to NADRA, SBP, FBR and NAB for their input relating to the candidate’s family members, loan and tax defaults and conviction in any case. The certificates issued by these institutions are returned to the returning officers so that those could be placed before the candidates at the time of the scrutiny of their papers.
