Government committee hails Taliban ceasefire announcement
ISLAMABAD: The committee formed by the government to hold talks with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has welcomed the ceasefire announcement by the militant organization and termed it a positive move.
The peace process came to a halt as violence continued unabated in different parts of the country. The TTP, an umbrella of dozens of banned outfits, claimed responsibility for the gruesome killings of over 20 paramilitary soldiers, prompting the Pakistan Air Force to launch air strikes in country’s northwestern tribal belt near Afghan border believed to be a safe haven of the militants.
The Taliban have announced a month long ceasefire and asked its offshoots to stop violence to pave way for success of talks in the interest of Pakistan and Islam.
