2 killed, 12 injured as gunmen open fire in Islamabad local court

ISLAMABAD: At least two persons were killed and 12 sustained injuries when one or two armed person/persons virtually taking over the Kachehri (local court) located in F-8 started indiscriminate firing, while the police and elite force trying to overpower the armed person/ persons, Geo News reported.

Neither the number of armed persons holed up in the Kchehri nor the motive behind violence could immediately be known. However, it is suspected that this could be outcome of two rival groups appearing in the court or a daredevil attempt to get free any under trial prisoner.

Police have cordoned of the area, while the elite force have entered into the Kachehri to locate the armed person/persons and overpower them.

Sources said that 12 injured persons including lawyers have thus far been brought into the PIMS Hospital.

Sources further that nearly 60 judges hold courts in the Kachehri, while hundreds of lawyers and scores of accused and their relations attend the court and their welfare was not immediately known.
