Basit arrives in New Delhi as new HC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to India Abdul Basit arrived in New Delhi on Sunday. Basit was received at the airport by a representative of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor A Khan and officers of the Pakistan High Commission, said a statement issued here. Abdul Basit was born in 1958 and holds a master’s degree in international relations. He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1982. During his diplomatic career, he has held important assignments at Pakistani missions abroad, which are: Moscow (1985-1988), New York (1991-1994), Sana’a (1994-1997), Geneva (2001-2003) and London (September 2003 to August 2008). He has been ambassador of Pakistan to Germany since 2012. Basit served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Headquarters) as section officer (1983 -1988 and 1991), as director (1997-2001), director general (2008-2009), spokesman (2009-2010), additional secretary (Europe) 2009-2012.
