Capital patrolling enhanced with more security deployments

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have revamped its patrolling system within Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) with deployment of Falcons, Eagle Motorcycle and Commando vehicles to ensure surveillance and prevention of street crimes.
As many as 15 Falcons and 16 pairs of Eagle Motorcycle along with six commando vehicles have been deployed which are working in three shifts for surveillance. The official information by Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control on Monday revealed that besides SHOs of all Police Stations within ICT have been strictly directed to utilize their mobiles as well as staff from Rescue-15 to curb street crimes such as theft, looting of cash, gold ornaments, cellphones, motorcycles, cars and other valuables in Islamabad.
He further revealed that the ICT Police are pro-active and have devised a policy due to which it has successfully reduced street crime.
The ICT Police also took steps to prevent street crime which included establishment of 45 Halting Points from 1600 hours to 2200 hours with break up of nine in City Zone, 20 in Saddar Zone and 16 in I-Area Zone. At these halting points, 51 vehicles have been deployed.
Besides, from 1359 hours to 0600 hours, number of halting points have been increased and rose to 126. At these halting points, 63 vehicles have been deployed to keep an eye over suspicious persons/vehicles to curb the crimes/criminals. Moreover, following the policy, 62 checkposts have been established with break up of City Zone 25, Saddar 17, Industrial Area 14 and six in rural at various key points of ICT which are functioning round the clock.
All exit and entry points of the city are also being picketed randomly along with other places at different venues and times. The Capital police have also re-introduced a Beat System. The Federal Capital has been divided in 44 beats and experienced officers have been deputed in each Beat to watch activities of suspects. There is one Falcon (vehicle) patrolling in each Beat.
Another step taken was establishment of 46 Community Policing Centre (CPC) within ICT. One Sub-Inspector has been deployed at each CPC to receive complaints by general public and to initiate an immediate action to save the public from inconvenience. The authorities also conducted a number of surveys within ICT to ascertain the population dwelling in slums to further improve law and order situation in Federal Capital.
The Arms Ordinance, 1965 is fully enforced. The violators are being dealt in accordance with the law, irrespective of their status. Besides, to deface the criminals involved in trafficking of illicit arms and ammunition, general hold ups at outgoing/incoming roads are being conducted.
As part of police measures to control crimes, the previous convicts are also being checked frequently by ICT Police through physical checking as well as through informers. The attention of public is also invited to cooperate with police by disclosing the names of suspicious persons to police. Leaflets and pamphlets are distributed for educating the inhabitants of the capital city.
In addition, a contingency plan has been chalked out and the ICT Police officers are being specially trained to counter terrorism. Exchange of secret information and intelligence is being ensured to prevent and combat the crimes/criminals.
