Islamabad attack: Nisar says judge accidently killed by guard's fire

ISLAMABAD: In a shocking revelation into Islamabad’s deadly attack on a district court, Interior Minister Chauhdry Nisar Ali Khan said judge Rafaqat Awan was killed in an accidental gunfire by a guard.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday, he said when the militants stormed the court a guard closed the door of the judge's room where a couple of other people were also present.

He said that the guard who had confessed to have accidentally shot dead the judge, bolted the door and pulled out a pistol.

The minister said the guard kept his finger on the trigger of his pistol while standing with his back against the wall.

He said the guard inadvertently opened fire, perhaps in panic, when a suicide attacker blew himself up just a few yards from the room where the judge died.

Nisar Ali Khan said that the judge sustained three bullets and died.He said that majority of the Taliban were not enemies of the country and efforts were underway to start direct talks with them next week.
