Pakistan ready to admit expelled Kashmiri students: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed its support for 67 Kashmiri students expelled for supporting Pakistan during a recent Asia Cup match against India.

During the weekly Foreign Office news briefing, spokesperson Tasneem Aslam expressed regret over actions taken against the students in India.

“Our hearts and educational institutions are open for Kashmiri students,” Aslam said.

Indian police registered and later withdrew a case of sedition against the 67 Kashmiri students of Meerut’s Swami Vivekanand Subharti University for celebrating Pakistan’s victory against India.

The Meerut police registered a case under section 124a, 153 a, and 427. The students have all been sent back to the Kashmir Valley.

Trouble began on Saturday when a group of local and Kashmiri students were watching the India-Pakistan match in SVSU's Madan Lal Dhingra Hostel.

A group of Kashmiri students celebrated Pakistan's victory over India and a few of them shouted slogan "Pakistan Zindabad" (Long Live Pakistan) on the way back to their rooms.

This act triggered tension in the university. As a result, the management suspended all 67 Kashmiri students residing in the hostel.
