Rs1 billion aid package announced for Thar
MITHI: An aid package worth Rs1 billion has been announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the drought-affected people of Tharparkar district.
The announcement was made during a briefing by the district administration to the prime minister on the situation in Thar. The prime minister called for an investigation into why wheat was not distributed in the district. He directed the Chief Minister Sindh to take strict action against those responsible and devise a strategy to avoid future incidents.
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has appointed a new district administration in the wake of the failure to distribute wheat properly. The chief minister also announced the formation of a committee comprising of NDMA, media and political representatives to oversee the wheat distribution.
According to reports over 120 children lost their lives due to malnutrition as the drought led to a food crisis in the district.
