SC calls for PPP stance on LB polls tomorrow
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani on Wednesday in his observation said that no party was serious about holding local body polls due to power sharing factor, Geo News reported.
The Chief Justice during the hearing of the case relating to delimitation in Punjab here observed that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stance on LB polls was different in Punjab from that in Sindh and enquired when would LB elections be held in Sindh?
Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani ordered PPP to let the court know its stance relating to LB elections by tomorrow.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Additional Secretary, Dr. Sher Afghan told the court that ECP had been doing the delimitations of provincial and national assemblies constituencies and added ECP could easily conduct the LB delimitations with available expertise.
While the PPP leader Latif Khosa said that his party endorses the ECP stand relating to holding of LB elections in Punjab.
Advocate General Pakistan (AGP) said that there was no mention of delimitations in the 18th Amendment.
Justice Azmat Saeed said that this was not the only shortcoming in the 18th Amendment, several other flaws and shortcomings also exist.
