Army to follow civilian govt’s policy in fight against terror
* JCSC meeting reaffirms resolve of armed forces to fight menace of terrorism under a comprehensive strategy within policy parameters set by political leadership
RAWALPINDI: A Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) meeting on Wednesday reaffirmed the resolve of the armed forces to fight the menace of terrorism under a comprehensive strategy by the political leadership.
The JCSC meeting was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters and was presided over by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood. The meeting which was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, defence secretary, defence production secretary and senior military officers from the three services.
The JCSC is a quarterly moot of the senior military leadership to assess and evaluate the operational preparedness of the armed forces. Issues related to national security and emerging regional environment along with the progress on the agenda points of the last meeting came under discussion. The participants expressed their satisfaction over the standard of preparedness of the armed forces to take on the upcoming challenges being faced by the country. The meeting reaffirmed the resolve of the armed forces to fight the menace of terrorism under a comprehensive strategy within the policy parameters set by the political leadership.
The army had on Tuesday assured the government its full support on the talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The assurance was held out in a meeting that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired to review national security.
