Death toll from Thar drought rises to 140 children

THARPARKAR: The death toll from the Thar drought which brought on famine, malnutrition and disease has risen to 140 children as three more died on Friday.

Two male children in Mithi Civil hospital and one female infant at Islamkot hospital died during treatment, sources said.

Rahila born four days ago passed away in Islamkot due to lack of better medical facilities, complained the family of the infant. Six months old Ramchand reaching Mithi hospital died, while two month old Asif expired on his way to the hospital.

Mithi Hospital still remains over crowded with several patients lying uncared/unattended on one bed.

Meanwhile, the relief work by several political and social organizations continues in different drought-hit areas, however, providing relief in the remote areas still remains a hard task.
