Nurses dismiss Punjab govt three-year contract offer

LAHORE: Protesting nurses have dismissed Punjab government’s offer of three-year contract to the paramedics, saying that they demand regularization of ad-hoc nurses.

Protesting nurses in Lahore continue their sit-in for the fifth consecutive day despite being baton charged and arrested a day earlier.

They are demanding the regularisation of ad-hoc nurses and say they protest will continue until this demand is met.

On Friday, the nurses had moved their sit-in from Cooper Road to The Mall causing traffic jams on adjacent roads. The police baton charged the protesting nurses to disperse them. To show solidarity with colleagues nurses from other hospitals also joined the protest.

Punjab Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered a judicial inquiry of Friday's incident while a cabinet committee has also been constituted to resolve the problems of the nurses. The committee headed by the Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah will hold talks with the aggrieved nurses.
