MUZAFFARGARH: Punjab CM takes stern action against police officials who mishandled gang-rape case
Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif took stern action against police officials who mishandled the gang-rape case of a teenage girl. The victim had set herself ablaze after hearing that the accused had been released later succumbing to her injuries at a hospital.
The chief minister accompanied by IG Punjab and other police officials visited Muzaffargarh and met the family of the victim. Chief Minister Sharif told the grieved family that their loss was irreparable and presented them a compensation cheque of 0.5 million rupees.
The Punjab Chief Minister took concerned police officials to task for their gross negligence in the gang-rape case and suspended Muzaffargarh DPO, Usman Akram Gondal, made OSD Dera Ghazi Khan RPO and ordered for the immediate arrests of DSP Saddar, Bait Mir Hazar SHO and the Investigation Officer.
Later, talking to the media expressing his grief and sorrow over the unfortunate incident, Shahbaz Sharif said that he has taken as stern actions as he could against police officials held responsible.
Earlier, the investigation agencies had sent their report to the chief minister relating to the incident, in which, it was said that FIR was strong, but police investigation was flawed. Police had 2/3 hours prior information of the girl’s self-immolation, but they didn’t dissuade her giving at least the hope of justice. Names of the investigation officials at fault have also been mentioned in the report.
