Sports festival will be held despite all odds: Mir Mujeeb

QUETTA: Balochistan Minister for Sports and Culture Mir Mujeebur Rehman has reiterated his resolve against terrorism, and said that the government would successfully conduct the Balochistan sports festival undeterred by the terrorist activities.
He said this during a media briefing regarding the scheduled sports festival in the province, on Saturday. He expressed his deepest grief and concerns over the Jinnah Road Science College blast, which left 11 people dead, including women and children, and 40 others badly injured. He said that the terrorists do not belong to any religion.
As he briefed the media on the sports festival, which would start from March 22 and continue until the 29th, he said that as many as 1,800 male and female players would participate in various sporting activities in the sports festival. He said that arrangements had been finalised for the provision of accommodation and foolproof security to the players in Ayub Stadium. He added that the purpose of arranging the sports festival in the province was to revive the tradition of sports in Balochistan. He stated that the youngsters of the province do not lack talent but it was the high need of time to promote their talent for the development of the province and the country.
The minister said that the incumbent government had focused specially on the education and health sectors, so that the masses could get the basic necessities of life. “The current government, in realisation of its responsibilities, is also pursuing goals of making arrangements for the mental and physical growth of the youth.”
He said and that Balochistan would be a source of recognition and pride for the country through such events. Apart from other competitions in the fields of hockey, cricket, cycling, chess, rifle shooting, squash, table tense, volleyball and badminton, five special days as culture day and children day would also be observed during the sports festival, the minister said.
He added that Rs 50 million had been allocated for the sports festival, of which Rs 20 million had been released and the committee formed to ensure transparency in the purchase of required items for the event.
