PM orders cash grants for drought-hit Tharis
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday decided to give cash grants to the crisis-hit people of Thar to help improve their purchasing power during the drought.
Around 78,000 people from Thar will benefit from the cash grant facility, according to the spokesman of the PM House.
The spokesman said the crisis in Thar was a vicious cycle of poverty, malnutrition and diseases which aggravated the vulnerability of the people.
The income support beneficiaries would almost triple the existing amount for the next two quarters. The existing income support mechanism would be used to help the poorest of the poor in Thar as well as ensuring transparency in the process, the spokeman added.
