Five Pakistanis still detained at Gitmo, says FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said that five Pakistanis were among the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, and that Pakistan was willing to repatriate them. Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam in her weekly briefing said that Pakistan got the consular access to these five nationals – Saifullah Piracha, Majid Khan, Ghulam Ahmed Rabbani, Muhammad Ahmed Rabbani and Amar Ali Baloshi.
She said that out of 140 Pakistanis detained at Guantanamo Bay, only five were currently there.
She said that the United States was also willing for repatriating these Pakistani detainees.
Commenting on the recently concluded visit of the king of Bahrain, the spokeswoman said this the visit would further enhance the already-strong relations between the two countries in diverse fields. She said that both the countries signed a number of memorandums of understanding during the visit of the king of Bahrain. To a question about the news published in The New York Times, she said that the ISPR director general had already given a detailed reaction to this news item, declaring it unfounded and baseless. Rejecting the contents of the news item, the spokeswoman said the story was based on speculations. About the news of missing Malaysian Airline plane, she said that stories of landing such a big plane in Pakistan’s remote airports was totally baseless, as it could be landed only at big airports in the country, which were few in number.
