Delay in Takhte Bhai Flyover irks senators
ISLAMABAD: The Senate’s Standing Committee on Communications on Friday expressed reservations over the change of design Takhte Bhai Flyover project (KP), which will also increase its cost.
Local residents including trade organisations, public representatives also flayed delay in construction of the flyover. Chairman of the committee Muhammad Dawood Khan Achakzai said delay in project construction increase public miseries and also badly hit business activities. Jamming of traffic become routines of the day. In order to hide its inefficiency, he said the NHA officials put responsibilities over the shoulders of other departments. To remove grievances of the local residents, Chairman of the committee invited local residents, traders and other notable in next meeting of the ministry of communication.
The committee has stressed the need to improve the design and accelerate the construction of Takhte Bhai Flyover project. They also called for a meeting in the Parliament House on 7th April to review the project. Committee’s Chairman Senator Muhammad Dawood Khan Achakzai, members of the Committee Senator Muhammad Zahid Khan, Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Senator Nisar Muhammad Khan, Senator Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari were briefed by GM NHA (KP) Region Engineer Abdul Samad Khan in Takhte Bhai press club over the project.
The members, while expressing their reservations and apprehensions of the people regarding the design of the project, said that the present design will cause trouble to the commuters and traffic from 11 districts of the area will be affected. The members of the Standing Committee told that on 7th April a meeting of the Standing Committee will be held in the Parliament House Islamabad where local representatives from the region and 6 members of Takhte Bhai Traders Union will also be invited to review and discuss the design and cost of the project.
Earlier, the members of the Standing Committee on Communications visited Service Areas and Trauma Centers along River Indus on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorways (M-1). On this occasion, Dr. Naveed Akhtar briefed the members on provision of first aid facilities that are provided to passengers in case of accidents while traveling on M-1. The Members of the Committee were also accompanied by Member Construction NHA Yousaf Ali Khan and other concerned officials.
