Homicides decreasing, mobile theft rising in Karachi: Hayat
KARACHI: The on-going targeted operation in the city has been successful on several fronts but according to Police Chief Shahid Hayat mobile snatching is on the rise.
“1,500 more phones were snatched in the city when compared with the corresponding period before the operation.” Hayat said the situation could improve if supply was curtailed and those individuals selling the phones were arrested.
Addressing a ceremony, Hayat said the targeted operation had brought the number of homicides in the city down. He added that homicides in the city were expected to be decreased by 50 per cent at the end of 2014.
According to Hayat the police had filed 400 cases in anti-terrorism courts while the provincial government had also increased the number of these courts. “We will have ten anti-terrorism courts when the newly appointed judges start working.”
Hayat said the Rapid Response Unit of police -- personnel on motorcycles -- would start working from next month.
