Thar suo moto: SHC terms all relief work reports unsatisfactory

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has declared all reports pertaining to relief work in Tharparkar unsatisfactory and summoned Relief Commissioner and Commissioners Mirpurkhas.

The Health, Food, Relief and Revenue Secretaries presented reports during the hearing of the suo moto notice of deaths of children in Tharparkar here on Tuesday.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Maqbool Baqar remarked that deaths in Tharparkar were due to shortage of food. He termed it injustice with the people of Thar.

The court summoned Relief Commissioner Lala Fazlur Rehman, Commissioner Mirpurkhas Ghulam Mustafa Phul and Deputy Commissioner Mirpurkhas Makhdoom Aqeel Zaman on April 08.

A judicial committee has also been formed to review the relief activities in drought-hit Thar.

In the court order, it is stated to ensure supply of food in the affected areas. It added that assistance of Army Aviation could also be sought in this regard.
