Senate body to bring privilege motion against add’l secretary

ISLAMABAD: Expressing displeasure and annoyance over the absence of Ministry of Interior secretary and additional secretary, a Senate committee on Monday decided to bring a privilege motion in the Upper House against the additional secretary, who wrote a derogatory letter to the committee. The committee that met on Monday under the chair of Senator Talha Mahmood has faced embarrassment for the second time when none of the official of the Ministry of Interior appeared in the meeting scheduled for a detailed briefing on deteriorating law and order situation in the federal capital. The committee has expressed anger over the absence of officials of Ministry of Interior in the meeting as well as the letter written by the Ministry of Interior to standing committee to hold one meeting in two month and inform the ministry before 15 days.
Talha Mahmmod said that ignoring parliament is tantamount of treason. “It was the contempt of the parliament and democracy. The officials breach the privilege of parliamentary committee by attending such important meeting”, he said. He said that instead of attending the meeting bureaucracy is now dictating us. Bureaucracy is telling us that Parliament has no importance and they have no time to appear before the parliamentary committee. Talha said that he have never seen such disrespect by any public servant and this was not tolerable at all. He said that those who are not abiding by the parliament and constitution, they are committing treason and he recommended the parliament to initiate treason case against them. Senator Syed Tahir Mashhadi said that the absence of officials of Ministry of Interior in the senate standing committee is the gross violation of the constitution and role of procedure. The Minister of Interior and bureaucracy by not attended the meeting of senate standing committee is showing disrespect and undermining the authority of the parliament, he said. About F-8 district court attack Talha Mehmood said that after the incident, the official should resign during which 11 people including an additional session judge were killed. The authorities have shifted all the blame on a poor security guard for the killing of additional session judge, he said. The committee has recommended conducting a transparent inquiry of the district court attack.
