Opp vows to oppose troop deployment to Syria

 

ISLAMABAD: A joint meeting of three opposition parties – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) – in the National Assembly decided to fiercely oppose any move by the government to send troops to Syria directly or indirectly.
The joint meeting of three parties chaired by Syed Khursheed Shah, Opposition Leader in National Assembly finalized the strategy for the ongoing session of the National Assembly and discussed the issues related to govenemnt-Talban talks, F-8 district court terrorism incident, 1.5 billion dollar financial assistance from Saudi Arabia and high inflation in the country. The opposition parties discussing the $1.5 billion aid given to Pakistan by Saudi Arabia expressed concern over it believing that some “dubious” elements in it which government should clarify. Deliberating upon the reports that retired army officers were being sent to Syria directly or indirectly, the parliamentarians of the three parties vowed to strongly oppose such a move if the government decided to send troops to Syria.
Syed Khursheed Shah told the meeting that Pakistan should keep away from conflicts in other countries and suggested that it is better to send humanitarian aid to countries ravaged by war. He also talked about absence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from Senate sessions and suggested him to convene joint session of the parliament if he could make it to senate. Other issues discussed in the meeting were the ups and downs of the US dollar and the inflation that continues to increase despite the promises made by the government.
Meanwhile, PPP also submitted an adjournment motion in National Assembly to discuss the recent abrupt agreement between PIA and Qatar Leasing Company regarding the purchase of 8 planes on lease under Rule no 88 of Rules and Procedures of National Assembly.
