PAC asks WAPDA, NTDC to ensure transparency


ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Water and Power and its attached departments WAPDA and NTDC to ensure transparency in their accounts.
Though the committee cleared most of the audit observations but strictly instructed to ensure transparency and follow the rule of law as it involved taxpayer’s money. While discussing an audit Para of the WAPDA, the PAC expressed displeasures over using of Neelum Jhelum Hydro Power Project vehicles by other government departments. The committee directed to provide details of all vehicles in next two weeks time.
The Audit officials told the committee that 87 luxury vehicles were purchased by the project against the PC-1 approved 54 vehicles, which cost excess expenditure in of Rs288.209 million. The audit officials also claimed that some of these vehicles were used in prime minister, president secretariat, two vehicles by water and power minister and so on.
