LHC takes notice of alleged police torture
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday took notice of a press report about a man his area’s people protesting against police torture, and a sought report.
The LHC directed to the Faisalabad district and sessions judge to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by police, along with his own comments within a week. According to details, Uzma Bibi, wife of Abrar, had submitted an application with the Samundri City police against four people, including Touseef and Abdul Aleem, for the registration of a case on the charge of kidnapping her mentally challenged brother Zulfiqar. She alleged that the suspects wanted to grab the property of Zulfiqar, taking advantage of his mental illness.
Abrar said that instead of recovering Zulfiqar police registered a cross version and arrested him without any justification. He alleged the policemen had tortured him and demanded recovery of his brother-in-law Zulfiqar. On this, he along with area people staged a demonstration outside the CPO office against alleged police torture. The protestors carried banners against police highhandedness and raised slogans. The victim said the police had released him on orders of the Court and now he would get medico-legal certificate for initiating action against the accused policemen.
