Need stressed to make Pakistan self-reliant

LAHORE: Speakers at a seminar on ‘Way Forward Politically for Pakistan in the World Today’ held in Gulberg on Saturday stressed the need for making the country self-reliant and do away with American aid.
The seminar was organised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Lahore Union Council-7 President Dr Samia Tauqeer at her residence in Gulberg, and addressed by Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mehmoodur Rasheed. PTI Information Secretary Sheri Mazari, PTI Punjab President Ijaz Chaudhry, LUMS Prof Dr Ijaz Akram and FC College Assistant Prof Dr Yaqoob Bangash were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheri Mazari said that reforms were needed to the country’s foreign policy to make Pakistan important among the comity of nations.
“Now we have to leave the hand of American friendship because Pakistanis have tolerated a lot of pain in this friendship,” she said.
She further said that the current leadership of Pakistan had been sold out, and that rulers were putting themselves before the nation while making foreign policy.
Mehmoodur Rasheed said that Pakistanis should stand on their feet instead of relying on American aid. He said that drones attacks in Pakistan were actually attacks on the country’s sovereignty.
He further said that Saudi Arabia was working on a special agenda, hence $1.5 billion grant, visits of Saudi delegations to Pakistan were interlinked, which is part of a hidden agenda.
Ijaz Chaudhry said that foundation of the foreign policy was weak, as the previous leaders grabbed the hand of Americans and neglected the neighbouring countries. “Americans always used Pakistan for personal interest, and they are not well-wishers of the country,” he said.
