PPP backs Saudi action in Yemen

ISLAMABAD/SUKKUR: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday voiced its support to Saudi Arabia’s operation in Yemen and vowed to stand by the Kingdom under all circumstances.

PPP won’t allow anoyone to cast an evil eye towards the sacred places in Saudi Arabia, Senator Rehman Malik said as he announced party position on the issue on behalf of Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Addressing a news conference here, he said Saudi Arabia always sided with Pakistan and if the kingdom faced any difficult time Pakistan should stand by it.

Malik suggested that the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) should mediate in the Yemen conflict.

If Mr Zardari is given any responsibility in this regard, he would be more than happy to play his positive role, he added.

If any input was sought by the federal government over the issue, or any responsibility was assigned to PPP it would be considered, he added.

Malik said the impression that PPP was supportive of any particular country was wrong.

He said the PPP had played its role in protection of rights of Muslim Ummah at the global level.

The PPP leader opined that Yemenis were being used by some world powers.

Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that the government should take parliament into confidence before taking any decision on the Yemen issue.

Talking to the media here, he said although Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoyed brotherly relations however, the former itself is in a state of war.
