PM can also ‘fall victim’ to Women Protection Bill: Fazl
Online
MULTAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday expressed fear of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif falling victim to Women Protection Bill. Lashing out once again at the bill, Fazl said no one would be able to “accept bangles in men’s hands”. Addressing a press conference, the JUI-F leader said, “It seems that the PM and CM will also fall victim to the law,” said Fazl, adding that the legislation by Punjab Assembly was in conflict with the constitution. He termed it “Western agenda”. “We won’t let Pakistan turn into a secular state,” he said. The JUI-F chief taunted Punjab Assembly members and said that they should be wearing “zann mureed” badges. Warning Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Fazl said that votes would not be able to save the government if he decided to topple it. Fazl said his party was also against torture on women but the bill was against the spirit of Islamic teachings and the constitution. He said it should have been sent to Council of Islamic Ideology (CII). Fazl claimed that efforts were being made to push ulema and religious seminaries to the wall.
