Mustafa Kamal slams Altaf Hussain, announces his own party

KARACHI: Former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal on Thursday lambasted at already beleaguered chief of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain, accusing him of having links with Indian RAW and made a big announcement of leading his own party.

“We are here to tell the people as to why we left the country and what has brought us back now", said Mustafa Kamal at a press conference here along with Anees Kaimkhani. Both former MQM leaders came back to Pakistan after remaining in self-imposed exile for at least three years.

He blamed Altaf Hussain for forcing him and Qaimkhani to quit MQM, saying Altaf has long been spreading lies. "The entire nation regards MQM workers and leaders as agents of RAW. All of them have become RAW agents in the eyes of the nation due to just one person.

The former city mayor also accused Hussain of unleashing rogue elements to humiliate senior party leaders, who always played a role in party's victory in elections. "Altaf Hussain is not ready to have mercy on Muhajirs despite devouring two generations of the community," said he.

"Everybody knows Altaf Hussain has links with RAW. Establishment, government and all the institutions know about his relations with RAW," Mustafa Kamal said.

In a tirade that lasted almost two hours, Kamal accused Husain of the murders of party workers, and of delivering speeches and making party policy while drunk.

“We made many enemies only for the sake of Altaf Hussain but he does not care for any of the party’s workers or a citizen of the country,” he added.

Altaf Hussain never admitted his mistakes and even the party’s Coordination Committee must have lost the count as to how many times Altaf Hussain announced to step down as MQM chief.

He asked as to who was responsible for turning Saulat Mirza into a murderer of Shahid Hamid.

Mustafa Kamal said Altaf Hussain got the Coordination Committee badly humiliated after giving a speech in full drunk tone on May 19, 2013.

He said there should be a complete devolution of power right down to the union council level. “All the financial and administrative powers must be transferred to the grass roots level in both letter and spirit,” he stressed.

Kamal also showed Pakistan’s national flag, saying this flag truly reflects the nature and spirit of his yet-to-be-named party.

He claimed that the Metropolitan Police of London seized truckload of evidence from Altaf Hussain's residence during raids following the assassination of Imran Farooq.

"Then they summoned the members in London, including Altaf Hussain who was interviewed for three days,” he said.

Mustafa Kamal said the Scotland Yard during their investigation asked MQM leaders including Altaf Hussaind if they were taking Indian funding. The former mayor said the investigators gave documentary evidence of funding after the MQM leaders denied allegations.

He said no MQM leader who is in Pakistan can run the party’s militant wing; it is remote operated from outside the country. Kamal said former interior minister Rehman Malik had more access to Altaf Hussain than party leaders, adding that the PPP leader used to dictate press releases for MQM.

MQM’s Barrister Saif reacts to Mustafa Kamal’s press conference

MQM leader Barrister Saif said MQM does not need to respond to the ‘baseless allegations’ leveled by Mustafa Kamal. The people have complete trust in the party and they have demonstrated the same time and again, he added.

Ruling out the impression of a rebellion within the party, he said Altaf Hussain is an undisputed leader of MQM.

However, MQM has announced to hold a press conference shortly to respond to the claims of Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani.

Rehman Malik

In a statement, former interior minister Rehman Malik said:" Mustafa Kamal's talk about me is baseless and nothing more than a joke."
