Received ‘unbelievable’ response, says Kamal
Former Karachi mayor says he receives thousands of phones calls from Pakistan, across the world, unable to manage response

KARACHI - Former Karachi mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal, who lambasted Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and announced to form a new party on Thursday, claims to have received overwhelming response and support.

“I and Anees Qaimkhani have received thousands of phones calls from Pakistan and across the world, we are unable to manage this response, I’m sorry for not receiving their calls but hopefully we will contact them,” Kamal said.

He was speaking to journalists after offering Friday prayers close to a bungalow in Defence where the disgruntled MQM leaders has been living since arriving in Pakistan on Thursday along with his colleague Anees. “This is unbelievable response. People are asking us what to do,” he said, and added that “we are not targeting any big name for our party.”

“We are not going to their (MQM’s) unit offices, may God guide them to the right path,” he said, while replying to a question. Earlier, he dropped bombshell on MQM, savaging its London-based supremo Altaf Hussain and announcing to set up his own party. Kamal, during his hours long press conference, accused Altaf of having links with Indian spy agency RAW. On the other hand, MQM has announced protests in Karachi against Kamal’s tirade.
