MQM defections mount as Dr Sagheer joins Mustafa Kamal
KARACHI: Former Sindh health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed on Monday announced to join hands with Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani, parting ways with the Muttahida Quami Movemet (MQM).
Addressing a press conference, which was reminiscent of Mustafa Kamal's media talk, Dr Sagheer Ahmed levelled serious allegations against the top leadership of MQM.
Flanked by Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani, Dr Sagheer said: “ I want to play a positive role which Pakistan requires, which can help Pakistan prosper and defeat enemies of Pakistan".
“It was no longer possible for me to remain tight lipped and continue to witness so many cruelties in silence. The former minister said Muhajirs are considered anti-national and RAW agents. “I have been a victim of weakness and compromises, but enough is enough,” he said, lashing out at the MQM supremo for not giving any importance to party workers who abandoned their houses and rendered sacrifices for the party.
"I have never been in contact with Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani since they left the country. I found their views so positively convincing that I decided to be here. Now I too want to play my role more clearly along with Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani.
"I don't want to criticize anyone, but for God sake open your eyes," he asked workers of the MQM.
He said many others in MQM share his views but were afraid of expressing them publically. Dr Sagheer also announced to quit his membership of the Sindh Assembly and sought forgiveness from the MQM workers for not being able to serve them according to their expectations.
Speaking on the occasion, Mustafa Kamal said instead of seeking more evidence government should work on evidence which it already had. He refused to respond to Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan's remarks.
He said people were contacting him from "every corner" since his return. "We have come to Pakistan because we want peace in Pakistan. "Nobody knows name of our party, but we have told our agenda". Mustafa Kamal said: "We will welcome everybody."We are not targeting MQM workers".
Responding to a question, he said making more provinces was not a sin but only the people of Sindh could make any decision in this regard.
MQM refuses to react to Kamal, Sagheer press conference
Soon after the joint press conference of Mustafa Kamal, Anees Qaimkhani and Dr Sagheer Ahmed, MQM announced that it is not going to react to it.
“We don’t want to give importance to the today’s press conference,” a spokesman of MQM said. However, the spokesman did say that today’s press conference is nothing more than ‘nil plus nil equals to nil’.
