Pathankot attack: UK ‘advises’ Pakistan to speed up probe

ISLAMABAD – British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affair Philip Hammond on Tuesday welcome the Pakistani commitment for the pursuing Phatankot attack investigations and also advised Pakistan to speed up the investigation into terror assault on India’s Pathankot air base.

After meeting, Hammond along with PM’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz was addressing the joint press conference here at Foreign Office.

The British foreign secretary appreciated Pakistani government efforts for setting up investigation team for the investigation of Pathankot incident. He urged both Pakistan and India not to allow non-state actors and other pressure groups to derail the peace process.

He also suggested that settling up the Kashmir issue should not be a precondition for starting the dialogue process between two neighboring countries. Hammond appreciated Pakistan’s role in the fight against terrorism and said that Pakistan is the victim of terrorism and we want to work closely with Pakistan to tackle the threats it faces. He said Britain and Pakistan will remain partner against terrorism.

Sartaj said that this visit of the secretary provided a very useful opportunity to review our bilateral relations. We are hopeful that this review would help to further strengthen our ties with the UK.

Pakistan and UK enjoy excellent relations and both sides are committed to strengthen them further by expanding trade, promoting investment and providing opportunities for cultural cooperation.
