PM chairs meeting on national security

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday chaired a meeting to discuss issues pertaining to national security here at the PM House.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, National Security Adviser Nasir Khan Janjua, Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Inter-Service Intelligence director general, foreign secretary and senior officials participated in the meeting. The participants of the meeting strongly condemned the cowardly act of terrorism in Shabqadar on March 7, said a PM House statement. The meeting agreed that elimination of terrorism from Pakistan’s was a national resolve. They paid tributes to the personnel of law enforcement and security agencies who embraced martyrdom while fighting the menace of terrorism.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday said his government was leading the war against terrorism to ensure a peaceful tomorrow for the country and future generations. Talking to British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond here at the PM House, he said fighting the war against terrorism was the moral obligation of Pakistan.
“We strongly condemn terrorist activities anywhere in the world whether perpetrated by individuals, groups or states,” the prime minister said. He said said his government faced major challenges of terrorism, economic degradation and energy deficiency since assuming office. “We are overwhelmingly contented that our government has delivered on all these fronts. Our government evolved broad-based consensus on National Action Plan, which has yielded very positive results in eliminating the scourge of terrorism from our land,” the PM told the British foreign secretary. Premier Nawaz said the entire nation in general and its brave armed forces in particular, have rendered matchless sacrifices in the national drive against terrorism. He said his government was also working on war footing to overcome the issue of energy shortage by the end of term in office.
