SC stays Karachi mayor’s election indefinitely
Online

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday indefinitely stayed the election for the office of the Karachi mayor and deputy mayor. A three-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad issued notices to the attorney general of Pakistan and the advocate general of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed them to file their replies in this case. Lawyer Babar Awan told the court that the Sindh government was engaged with the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry in connection with the Karachi law and order case, therefore, its representatives could not appear in the court. He said the election for mayor and deputy mayor’s office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held through a show of hands and the election procedure would be affected if the Supreme Court gives a decision against the election by show of hands. He asked the court to issue a notice to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and direct it to come up with its point of view.
