Merchant says MQM case not likely to be dropped next month
LONDON: Sarfaraz Merchant, one of the suspects in money laundering case against MQM, said on Monday that he doesn’t think the investigators in London would drop the case next month as some people are suggesting.
“It would be a wishful thinking, but from evidence and documents that I have seen, I don’t think the case will be dropped,” he said while talking to Shahzeb Khanzada, host of Geo News talk-show.
He said he had conveyed his reservations about FIA letter to the agency’s Director Inam Ghani who contacted him by telephone on Monday (Today). He said Inam Ghani said he would re-send the letter after making changes.
“Now I am waiting for his response,” he said, adding that he was ready to share evidence and documents with the committee set up by the interior minister.
Merchant claimed he was in possession of some highly sensitive information to corroborate his claims about MQM but would share them with the committee upon his arrival in Pakistan.
Asked whether MQM had contacted him after his interview, he said no direct contact was made by the party.
