World consulting Pakistan on counterterrorism strategies: Baligh
ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Baligh ur Rehman said on Saturday that it was government’s duty to create a conducive business atmosphere and ensure jobs and sustainable economic growth in the country.
Addressing a meeting with businessmen of the federal capital at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry the other day, he said the business community of any country was the backbone of the economy of that country. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was on the mission to put the country on the path of economic development and prosperity. He said the rating of the government of the PML-N had improved in the last three years and progress could be seen in different sectors of the country.
The government, he said, devised a comprehensive strategy after assuming the power to eliminate extremism and terrorism, strengthen the economy, overcome the crippling energy crisis and ensure education for all. To achieve these goals, he said, “We adhered to the highest standards of probity, fairness and transparency.”
The minister said the government restored peace in Balochistan, Karachi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country. The world had now realised the importance of Pakistan, he said. He said the incumbent government restored the confidence of the world in Pakistan. Pakistan, he said, was the only country in the world that had achieved the goal of peace. He said that terrorism was on the rise in the entire world and many countries were now consulting Pakistan on counterterrorism strategies.
Rehman said that duration of load shedding had decreased and a contract had been signed with Qatar to import LNG to overcome the energy crisis. He said that construction work on Bhasha, Dasu and Neelum Jehlum dams was underway to meet water and power needs of the country.
“The National Action Plan (NAP) is being implemented in the country, as we can see the incidents of terrorism have been controlled as compared to the past,” he said. The government was determined to equip the youth of the country with technical skills and professional training through Prime Minister’s Youth Programme so that they could get jobs in industries at home and abroad. In this regard, he said, the government was making efforts to create linkages between academia and industries.
Rehman urged the business community to support the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), which was working for the promotion of education in the rural areas of the country. He said the NCHD was making all-out efforts to impart free education to the poor in the far-flung areas of Pakistan by using the method of Multi-Educational System. He said that 12,000 children in the rural areas were getting education through the community-based schools.
Each school costs Rs150,000, the minister said and offered the businessmen to adopt these schools and name them after their near and dear ones.
The representatives of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry told the minister that they were ready to take benefit of the students who studied at the best universities of the world. They said that these students would be hired by the industry, as they were the assets of the country. In this regard, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry would contact the Higher Education Commission.
