Pakistan wants friendly ties with all neighbours: Fatemi

KARACHI: Pakistan desires friendly ties with all its neighbours including India and Afghanistan, said Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Syed Tariq Fatemi.

Addressing the members of the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR) on Saturday, he said, “We are looking forward to a new era of peace as well as progress and development in Afghanistan and to this very end Pakistan was extending every sort of assistance and collaboration.”

Fatemi made it clear that Pakistan is a peace-loving country and “it is not our policy to interfere in the internal affairs of any country”. He said that in spite of its limited resources, Pakistan is extending assistance to Afghanistan.

“Our government desired good ties with India and that is why our prime minister had participated in the oath-taking ceremony of the Indian Premier Narendra Modi which had indicated our desire of good ties with the Indians”, he added. Fatemi pointed out that Pakistan not only condemned the Pathankot incident but also formed an investigation team for the purpose, which will soon visit India.

Referring to the relations with China, he said that Pakistan enjoys very deep friendly ties with Peoples Republic of China and both countries take each other into confidence regarding the regional and international affairs. He highlighted China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a project that is beneficial not only for the two countries but almost half of the world’s population would benefit from it.

KCFR Chairman Shahid Amin thanked the special assistant and other guests who attended the session.
