Govt, opposition set up body for consultation on PIA bill

ISLAMABAD: Government and opposition have set up a 10-member committee for consultation over a bill for privatization of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and it has been tasked to present its recommendations on April 7.

At a joint session of the Parliament, the government and opposition decided to hold a round of consultations before approving six bills including one for the privatization of the national flag carrier.

In this connection, Syed Ayaz Sadiq said a 10-member committee comprising Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Farooq Sattar, Mushahidullah, Hasil Bizenjo, Saeed Ghani, Zahid Hamid, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Khurram Dastgir, Naveed Qamar and Asad umer has been constituted.

Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said it must not viewed as someone’s win or defeat. “This is a victory of democracy,” he added.

He said the opposition took a principle stand over the PIA’s privatization and the government acknowledged the same, demonstrating its broad vision.

The joint session of the parliament will now be resumed at 11 a.m. on April 11.
