Suicide blast kills 25, injure over 100 in Lahore park

LAHORE: A suicide bomber blew himself up outside a park in a densely populated area of the metropolis, killing at least 25 people and injuring many others, police and rescue official said on Sunday.

The dead and injured, most of them women and children, were shifted to different hospitals where an emergency was declared after the blast.

"25 people were killed and over 100 injured in the suicide blast at the Allama Iqbal Park in Iqbal Town," said a senior police official.

Police, Army personnel, Bomb Disposal Squad and forensic experts reached the park and placed a cordon to gather evidence. Rescue officials were shifting the bodies and injured to various hospitals of the city.

DIG Operations Haider Ashraf said evidence suggest the blast was suicide attack but further investigation would determine the exact nature of the blast.

According to Geo News , the explosion took place at the parking stand of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park. The injured were moved to the Jinnah,Sheikh Zaid and other hospitals for treatment, while police said more casualties are feared as some of the injured were in critical condition.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed his grief and shock over the loss of precious lives in the deadly blast in the heart of Lahore.
