‘All resources to be utilised to impart human rights education to youth’

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Human Rights (HR) Barrister Zafar Ullah has said all available resources would be utilised to impart human rights education among youth through workshops and symposiums in universities and academic institutions.
While chairing a high level meeting he said, “It is the need of the hour to sensitise and educate the youth of the country on the importance of human rights”. The meeting was attended by the officials of the ministry, said a news release issued on Sunday.
Matters related with the national action plan for Human Rights, Christian marriage bill and establishment of Human Rights Institute of Pakistan came under the discussion.
The meeting deliberated on the salient features of national action plan for human rights that include Protection of Women Rights, protection of child rights, protection of minorities and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The special assistant said that the aim of the action plan is to redress the concerns of vulnerable segments of the society and prevention of human rights violations.
He said that the Ministry of Finance has already approved Rs 150 million that would be utilised for the implementation of National Action Plan adding that it should be implemented in letter and spirit by allocating the timeframe to all activities.
He informed that a task force would be established under the supervision of federal minister for Human Rights that will oversee the successful implementation of the national action plan for Human Rights. He also directed to expedite the matter of land acquisition for the Human Rights Institute of Pakistan.
