Court resents Musharraf's departure, asks centre for reply
ISLAMABAD – A special court hearing case of high treason against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf expressed resentment over the federal government for allowing him to leave Pakistan, a private TV channel reported.
On March 18, Musharraf left Pakistan and arrived in Dubai for what his lawyers said was urgent medical treatment after a three-year travel ban was lifted and his name was removed from the exit control list (ECL) of the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
Justice Mazhar Alam asked if the federation kept unaware of special court’s order in the case. State counsel Akram Sheikh said that the federation was informed about court’s order. The three-member bench summoned Interior Affairs Secretary Arif Khan and ordered him to file an explanation over Musharraf’s departure within 15 days.
The channel reported that Musharraf will stay at his Dubai residence for some weeks before seeking an appointment with doctors in the United States. He is facing multiple charges, including treason and murder over the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
In June 2015, the Sindh High Court had lifted travel ban on Musharraf, but the federal government appealed against the verdict. The Supreme Court upheld the Sindh High Court’s decision and ordered the government to allow Musharraf to travel.
