‘Changing uniform instead of police culture is illogical’

Muhammad Azhar Siddique moved a petition against government’s decision to change police uniform to ‘less attractive’ new olive green colour
LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Thursday issued a notice to provincial government and others on a petition-challenging introduction of new uniform for police force in Punjab.

Chief Justice also directed to the respondents to file their replies till 3rd April.

A lawyer, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, moved the petition submitting that the decision of the government of changing police uniform instead of changing police culture in the province is irrational. He said that an extensive debate had been started in police circles about ‘less attractive’ new olive green uniform for the force.

He said that the system was not capable of affording such a lavish expense, pertaining to the uniform, and the police stations are lacking basic facilities, good buildings, infrastructures, utensils and other daily products. He also alleged that the government had violated the ruled in giving tender to Nishat Textile Mills for manufacturing of the new uniform.

He said that instead of wasting precious money on uniforms, the money should be spent on improving the police culture and all the basic facilities for the betterment of the citizens of Punjab. He requested to set aside the tender process for the new police uniform for being in violation of the rules.
