Govt. committed to create enabling environment
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday said the government was committed and working towards the creation of an enabling environment for the betterment of the labour force and the progress of the country.
Addressing a Special Cabinet Meeting Prime Minister Gilani said the new labour policy was based on universal principles of equality and social justice, constitutional and international rights for the uplift of workers and labour force.
He said approval of the Labour Policy on May 1 was most appropriate as it coincides with the Labour’s Day.
Prime Minister Gilani said Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had called for preparing a new labour-friendly policy and pointed that he made this commitment in his first speech to the National Assembly.
He said the new policy reflects aspirations of the labour and commitment envisioned by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the Labour Policy of 1972.
The Minister for Labour and Manpower in his remarks thanked the Prime Minister and the Cabinet for their guidance and input in the new policy.
He also appreciated the contribution of the provincial governments and all the stakeholders. He informed the Cabinet that the New Labour Policy was the 6th and the last was announced in 2002.
The Secretary Ministry of Labour and Manpower presented the new Labour Policy before the Cabinet and explained its main features. He said all concerned federal government institutions, provincial governments and other stakeholders had made positive contributions in its preparation.
The Cabinet appreciated and approved the New Labour Policy 2010.
The Prime Minister also briefed the Cabinet about his visit to Bhutan to attend the SAARC Summit. The Cabinet appreciated and endorsed the outcome of the SAARC Summit as well as side line meetings with the heads of member states including the Prime Minister of India.
