RAWALPINDI: A fact-finding committee, constituted by the prime minister, to probe the hosing down of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination site visited Liaquat Bagh on Saturday and inquired locals about the location, the stage built for the December 27, 2007 public meeting and the route of Benazir’s vehicle.

According to details, committee members, led by Cabinet Secretary Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, reached Liaquat Bagh around noon. The members included Vice Chief of General Staff Major General Sajjad Ghani and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Additional Interior Secretary Fayyaz Tooro. They questioned then CIA SP Rana Shahid and SHO Kashif Riaz for an hour, while Rawalpindi CPO Rao Iqbal was also present on the occasion.

The committee members thoroughly inspected the crime scene and took photographs of various parts of Liaquat Bagh. They also attempted to re-enact the events that led to the murder of Benazir Bhutto. The members were told where body parts of the suicide bomber had been found, while a comprehensive briefing was also given to them about the route through which Benazir reached the stage and returned to her car.
