China assures Pakistan of assistance in energy crisis

 

ISLAMABAD: China on Tuesday assured Pakistan of greater financial assistance and cooperation to help resolve its energy crisis.

In an exclusive interview with the APP, Chinese embassy Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Huang Xilian said China, being a close friend of Pakistan, is already assisting Pakistan and over 120 projects, in which over 13,000 Chinese are working, are underway.

Referring to the energy crisis in the country, the DCM said, China has been working on projects of civilian nuclear energy to resolve Pakistan’s energy crisis.

The Chinese embassy DCM, who has just arrived after his stint in Washington DC, said China was also ready to provide loans to finance projects for generation of hydel power in Pakistan.

Regarding Sino-Pak strategic relations, he said, “We have to strengthen and substantiate our cooperation to further strengthen our relations.”

Praising Islamabad’s efforts in fighting terrorism, he said, “We have been working closely with the Pakistan government in this regard to ensure peace and security in the region.”

He said, “We are providing necessary assistance to Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism.”

To a question on Pak-India relations and the role of China in the revival of dialogue between the two neighbours, Xilian said Pakistan and India were two major players in the region and had an important role in international affairs, adding that it was important for them to improve their relations in their own as well as for the region’s interest. app
