Law secretary resigns to ‘avert court pressure’
ISLAMABAD: Law Secretary Justice (r) Muhammad Aqil Mirza resigned from office on Friday, citing unstable health conditions.
However, sources said he preferred to quit to avert the pressure of appearing before the Supreme Court on May 13 in the suo motu case on the non-implementation of its December 16 order.
Earlier this week, Attorney General Justice (r) Maulvi Anwarul Haq stunned the apex court while quoting Mirza’s statement, saying the issue of the Swiss cases had been closed and no communication was required with the Swiss government for re-opening of the cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
The secretary, however, told reporters it was not his personal stance, but the government’s opinion submitted to the court.
Meanwhile, the law secretary could not be reached despite repeated attempts, while a Law Ministry official told Daily Times Justice (r) Mirza had sent his resignation. masood rehman.
