Faisal inspired by Yemeni cleric: report
NEW YORK: Faisal Shahzad on Friday told investigators that he drew inspiration from Yemeni-American militant cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, a report in The New York Times said. The newspaper quoted an American official as saying that Shahzad, a US citizen of Pakistani origin, had said he was “inspired by” the lectures of Awlaki. “He listened to him, and he did it,” the official said, referring to Saturday’s attempted bombing on a busy street in the Times Square. A military official said Shahzad had told interrogators that he met TTP operatives in North Waziristan in December and January. app
