APC asks political, religious parties to evolve consensus on water issue

* APC issues declaration demanding govt to complete construction of dams

Staff Report

LAHORE: The participants of the All Parties Conference (APC) on the issue of ‘Indian Water Terrorism’ on Sunday demanded all political parties, social groups and religious organisations to evolve national consensus on the water issue.

Speakers at the APC organised by the Jamaatud Dawa’s Pakistan Water Movement (PWM) at a local hotel said India planned to “destroy Pakistan economically” by depriving Pakistan of its equitable share of water.

Power crisis: The APC issued a declaration, demanding the government take immediate steps to complete the construction of the Kalabagh and Bhasha dams. Its declaration also demanded serious efforts to overcome the worsening power crisis in the country.

The declaration said inaction by international bodies like the UN and the World Bank over ‘Indian water aggression’ had left a big question mark on their neutrality. Islamabad should give top priority to the Kashmir conflict and the water issue in its talks with New Delhi at all levels, it added. The declaration demanded all government ministers and officials to put an immediate end to ‘unilateral ties’ with India.

It went on to say that the PWM would go to people’s houses to create awareness about Indian water aggression and would try to evolve national consensus over the issue. The APC was presided over by PWM Convenor Hafiz Saifullah Mansoor.
