Rehman Malik to meet Altaf in London
LAHORE: Interior Minister Rehman Malik will hold crucial talks with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain in London today (Tuesday), a private TV channel reported on Monday. The channel quoted sources as saying that the interior minister would leave for London on Tuesday morning to hold a decisive meeting with the MQM chief in order to resolve the ongoing tensions and to save the coalition between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and MQM. Previously, the channel had reported that the MQM Coordination Committee held an emergency meeting in London and Karachi simultaneously on the issue of restoring Hyderabad’s old status. MQM members of provincial assemblies and members of provincial assemblies have presented their resignations to Altaf over the issue. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Malik contacted the members of the coordination committee and tried to clarify the prime minister’s statement. The MQM, however, rejected all clarifications and demanded President Asif Ali Zardari’s intervention in the issue. daily times monitor
