England knock out Kiwis, Pakistan through to semi finals
GROS ISLET: New Zealand were knocked out of the Twenty20 World Cup and Pakistan went through to the semi-finals after England comfortably beat the Kiwis in the final Group E match of the Super Eight stage on Monday.
After Pakistan defeated – and eliminated – South Africa earlier, England reached their target of 150 with five balls to spare.
Michael Lumb (32) and Eoin Morgan (40) were the top scorers for England – which had qualified for the last four even before the match against New Zealand.
New Zealand went into the game needing to win, but were around 25 runs short of a challenging total despite a smart knock of 44 by Ross Taylor. Pakistan’s place in the last four is a surprise after they lost their opening two games to England and New Zealand. reuters
