CJP issues notices over use of children in camel racing

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Monday directed his office to treat an article on the use of Pakistani children in camel races in United Arab Emirates (UAE) as petition under Article 184(3) of the constitution.

He issued notices to the Interior and Foreign Affairs secretaries to file their comments until May 14 and personally appear in the court or send a duly authorised representative or law officer.

The CJP had taken suo motu notice on an article that appeared in a newspaper and an application filed by Tahir Ali stating that Pakistani children were used in the camel races held in the UAE.

Tahir Ali stated that $1,400,000 had been given to Pakistan as a compensation for the children.
