BISP is an exemplary social protection plan, says UN official

 

ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is a supreme example for other social protection programmes in the region, United Nations Assistant Secretary General for South Asia Ajay Chibber said on Monday during a visit to the BISP head office by a UN delegation headed by him.
Federal Minister and BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja thanked the UN delegation and briefed them about the various initiatives that had been taken under the programme including Cash Grant, Emergency Relief Package, Waseela-e-Haq, Health Insurance and Vocational Training Programme. The delegation showed keen interest in the objectives of the programme and Chibber offered the services of the UN to BISP through the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
He also offered to share the data collected by the UN Development Programme’s (UNDP) in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for mapping the victims of bomb blasts in the province. He further suggested that the UNDP could act as a monitoring and evaluation partner to BISP for its various initiatives. Delegation head also invited Farzana to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) review summit to be held in New York later this year. staff report
